# AI contract management agent with ChatGPT dots

Budi Voogt Nov 06, 2026

Copy for LLM

With artificial intelligence (AI), you can build an AI contract management agent with ChatGPT dots that keeps working after you close the chat. Take a fictional agency whose software order form with Veltra Analytics renews for another year on 1 February unless it gives notice by 2 January. Once it is set up and checked, the dot can file that order form in your contract repository the week it is signed, so you hear about the notice date in December instead of when the next invoice arrives. Contracko does the expert part: AI contract analysis of each document, the dates, the reminders and the risk review. The dot does the legwork.

Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents inside ChatGPT. Each dot has its own cloud computer, carries notes forward across conversations and can work in the background [1]. This guide adds Contracko to ChatGPT with one click, gives a dot the contract job and sets up the scheduled work it runs on its own.

## Why contracts deserve their own dot

A chat answers the question in front of it and then waits. A dot holds a standing job. Contract work suits that: the documents keep arriving, the dates keep moving and nobody wants to be the person who remembers the notice period on a supplier deal.

For a person, a contract dot looks after the lease, the mortgage, the insurance policies and a drawer of subscriptions. For a business, it works like an in-house contract manager. It gathers the signed agreements it can reach, files them, flags gaps in the record and tells the team about a renewal before the notice date passes.

The division of labour is what makes AI contract management with a dot work. Your dot and the model behind it do not extract terms or analyse contracts. Contracko does all AI extraction and analysis itself: parties, dates, renewal terms, notice periods, fees, liability, obligations and risk. The dot does what a capable assistant does:

- finds documents in Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox or your email
- uploads them to Contracko and checks when each import has finished
- checks each contract landed under the right contract type, then fixes the type and re-runs the analysis where it did not
- files contracts in folders and keeps counterparties tidy
- sets reminders, answers questions about your contracts and tells you what needs a decision

Contracko connects to ChatGPT through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for linking AI agents to apps. For the background on how an agent talks to a contract system, read [what a contract management MCP server is](https://contracko.com/blog/what-is-a-contract-management-mcp-server).

## What a contract dot looks like

An illustrative exchange with a dot in ChatGPT, using fictional companies and data. One of the files is a data processing agreement (DPA).

```
Pull last month's signed agreements from the "Contracts 2026" SharePoint folder into Contracko and tell me what you filed where.
```

| File | Contract type | Folder | Status |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Marlow Logistics framework.pdf | Framework agreement | Suppliers / Marlow | Imported |
| Pinecrest Clinic DPA.pdf | Data processing agreement | Clients / Pinecrest | Imported |
| Ashby House sublease.docx | Office lease | Facilities | Imported, type changed from "Other" |
| Veltra Analytics order form.pdf | Software subscription | Suppliers / Veltra | Imported, auto-renews |

The dot notes that the Ashby House sublease first landed as "Other", so it changed the type to "Office lease" and asked Contracko to analyse it again. It adds that the Veltra order form renews for another year on 1 February unless you give notice by 2 January.

## Set up your contract dot

OpenAI is rolling dots out gradually to eligible accounts [1]. On ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500, they are for users aged 18 and older outside the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Business Premium workspaces get them in supported ChatGPT regions, subject to workspace eligibility. Eligible Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces have them too, except workspaces with United Arab Emirates (UAE) data or inference residency. During the admin preview an admin enables access for your role, and from 18 November 2026 access is on by default unless the workspace opts out. Check OpenAI's dots documentation for the current list before you plan around it.

### Add Contracko with one click

Contracko is listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Under the hood it is a ChatGPT MCP connection to the Contracko MCP server [5]. Open the [Contracko plugin for ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6ac8e9b10f548191ab1ed190c3b0ccab), add it to your account and sign in to Contracko in your browser.

When Contracko asks what to allow, grant read and write access to your contracts from the start. Read access lets the dot answer questions. Write access lets it import, change contract types, file and set reminders, which is the job you are giving it.

Contracko has two products, each with its own access:

- Contract management is your contract repository: contracts, dates, reminders, folders, analysis and reports. Your dot uses this, and it never spends Parser credits.
- Contracko Parser is a separate tool for processing documents in bulk outside your repository. A contract dot does not need it, so leave it off unless you use Parser for something else.

No Contracko account yet? The sign-in screen lets you start a free trial without a credit card, or you can start from [pricing](https://contracko.com/pricing).

If your workspace blocks directory plugins, you can add the Contracko MCP server as a custom app in developer mode with this endpoint, and an admin can publish it to the workspace. That route suits Business and Enterprise. On Pro, developer mode is limited to read and fetch, so it cannot do the filing [6]. The [MCP server documentation](https://contracko.com/docs/mcp-server) has the steps.

```
```

### Create the dot

Create a new dot from the ChatGPT desktop app, the mobile app or ChatGPT in a desktop browser. Give it a name such as "Contracts" and describe the job in plain language:

```
You run our contracts in Contracko. Keep the contract repository complete, filed and up to date, and tell me what needs attention before it becomes urgent. Quote the contract clause behind each finding. Never delete contracts, documents or folders.
```

That is the whole brief. Describe the job, not a list of approval rules: the dot is meant to work on its own, and Contracko limits what any connected agent can do, as covered below.

A dot can use supported plugins installed and enabled for your account, with their connected accounts and existing permissions [1]. OpenAI does not publish a list of which plugins dots support, so check before you rely on it. Open the dot's Plugin permissions and confirm Contracko is there [2]. Then ask the dot for one read and one small write, such as listing your contracts and adding a single reminder, before you hand it the whole job.

### The Contracko skill

A skill is a folder of instructions that teaches an agent how to use a tool well. Contracko publishes one, called contracko, in its open [skills library](https://github.com/contracko/contracko-skills), and the Contracko plugin for ChatGPT already includes it [4]. It covers importing, checking contract types, filing and dates, so the agent spends fewer steps working out how Contracko behaves. OpenAI notes that local skills need a connected computer [1], so whether your dot draws on the skill can depend on where its work runs.

## Build a contract repository with tracking

A contract repository with tracking is where a dot pays for itself. Your agreements live in one workspace, and the dates and reminders keep running whether or not anyone opens ChatGPT. If the idea is new to you, start with [what a contract repository is](https://contracko.com/blog/contract-repository-guide).

### Bring every contract in

Connect the plugins for where your contracts live, such as Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Gmail or Outlook, where your plan offers them. Each plugin needs its own connected account and permission for the actions you ask for [1]. Then hand the dot the search.

```
Find every signed contract in our Google Drive and in my Gmail attachments from the last three years. Import each one into Contracko, wait until every import has finished and list anything that failed.
```

If the plugins work for your dot, it uploads each file and checks until Contracko reports the import done. Start with a small folder and check the results before you hand it three years of mail. Contracko reads the document and creates the contract record, linked to an existing or new counterparty. The full workflow is in [how to import and organise contracts with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/extract-contract-data-with-mcp).

### What Contracko extracts for you

Contract tracking only works if the right fields are filled. Contracko extracts the parties, start and end dates, renewal terms and notice periods, plus commercial terms such as fees and billing frequency, and clauses such as liability caps. Contract types can carry their own custom fields, and extraction fills those as well.

Spreadsheets tend to fail on renewals, because an end date on its own hides whether the deal rolls over. In Contracko, auto-renewal and its renewal period are separate fields, and the notice period counts back from the end date. See [contract dates and auto-renewals](https://contracko.com/docs/contract-dates) for how that works.

### Fix types and file folders

Most people skip this step. A dot will not:

```
Go through the contracts imported this week. Where a contract type is wrong, correct it and re-run the analysis. Then move each contract into the right client, supplier or facilities folder.
```

Re-reading the document against the new type's fields is a separate step, and Contracko may ask you to approve the result. Check the fields afterwards, so a data processing agreement ends up with processing terms rather than generic ones.

### Reminders and your calendar

With the dates in place, one message covers the whole contract repository:

```
Show me every contract that renews automatically and has a notice date. Propose a reminder 21 days before each notice date and who gets it, and set them once I confirm.
```

Once set, the reminders live in Contracko and fire on their own. For more reminder prompts, see [contract renewal reminders with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/contract-renewal-reminders-with-mcp).

To see the same dates next to your meetings, use Contracko's [calendar feed](https://contracko.com/features/calendar-integration). It works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook, and it carries start, end and notice dates plus reminders. Subscribing is a one-time job: copy the feed address from Calendar in Contracko and paste it into your calendar app, as the [calendar setup guide](https://contracko.com/docs/calendar-integration) shows.

## AI contract analysis for any agreement

Sometimes you want one answer about one agreement: what it commits you to, which dates matter, how money moves and what looks unusual. Contracko has already analysed the contract, so the dot answers from that analysis and quotes the clause behind each point.

```
Give me the Veltra Analytics order form in five lines: term, notice period, price changes and anything unusual.
```

```
Can we end the Marlow Logistics framework early, and what would it cost us?
```

An illustrative answer to the first prompt, with fictional data:

| Point | What Contracko found | Clause |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Term | 12 months from 1 February, renews yearly | "This Order Form renews automatically for further 12-month periods." |
| Notice | 30 days before renewal, by email | "Customer may cancel by email no later than 30 days before renewal." |
| Unusual | Overage billed at list price | "Usage above the Committed Volume is invoiced at the then-current list price." |

The chat-assistant version of this job is in [AI contract review with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/ai-contract-review-with-mcp).

## AI contract review for risk and obligations

Portfolio-wide AI contract review puts the same question to all your agreements: where is the exposure, and which obligations fall due?

```
Which supplier contracts have uncapped liability, one-sided indemnities or a termination right only the supplier holds? Sort them by renewal date.
```

```
What do we owe our clients in the next 60 days under their contracts? Include deliverables, reports, payments and notices.
```

An illustrative findings table for the second prompt, with fictional data:

| Obligation | Owed to | Due |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Annual data processing audit report | Pinecrest Clinic | 10 February |
| Proof of insurance | Ashby House landlord | 28 February |
| 30 days' notice of any subprocessor change | Pinecrest Clinic | Before the change |

The dot reads Contracko's risk and obligations analysis for each contract and quotes the clause. Check that wording against the document before you act, and ask the dot which contracts it could not read or has no analysis for yet. For the wider discipline, see [contract risk management](https://contracko.com/glossary/contract-risk-management).

## Reports that stay current

Contracko's reporting dashboard shows totals, annual value, upcoming renewals and top vendors, and the numbers update as contracts change. Filter it by contract type, status, counterparty or timeframe, then create a share link for that exact view. Anyone with the link can see the view, even without permission to open the contracts behind it, so share it with care and disable the link when you no longer need it.

Your dot covers the questions in between. Ask it to page through the matching contracts, say how many it reviewed and flag any with missing dates:

```
List every contract that ends or renews in the next six months, grouped by counterparty, and tell me which ones have no notice date.
```

For the view your team keeps coming back to, the share link is better than a pasted table. Whoever opens it next month sees next month's numbers.

## Five workflows to run on a schedule

Treat the workflows below as things to try and check, not tested recipes. A dot does not need a fixed schedule; it decides when to pause and pick work back up. When you want something at a set time, say so in the prompt and include your time zone and how long it should repeat, as OpenAI's dots guide suggests [1]. Scheduled tasks show up under Scheduled [2], and cloud work keeps running while your devices are off [1]. Each workflow below depends on the plugins and channels you have connected, so treat it as a starting point and change the folder names, times and channels to yours.

### Onboard everything once

Connect your storage and email plugins first. This works for a household's paperwork as well as a company archive.

```
Start with one folder: collect the signed contracts in my Google Drive "Contracts" folder and my Gmail attachments from this year and bring them into Contracko. Once the imports finish, compare each contract type with the document and correct the wrong ones. Sort them into client, supplier or household folders, then report back with the count, the folder for each file and any failures.
```

### Watch a folder for new contracts

```
Every weekday at 08:00 Europe/Amsterdam time, until I tell you to stop, check the SharePoint folder "Contracts 2026" for files added since your last check. Import each new file into Contracko, wait for the import to finish, check the contract type and file it in the right folder. Send me one line per file, or nothing if there was nothing new.
```

### Catch signed contracts in your inbox

Try a first pass over the whole mailbox and check what it found. If that works, the dot can pick up each completed signature email from DocuSign, Adobe Sign, PandaDoc or a similar tool and checks that the contract sits under the right counterparty.

```
First, search my Gmail for completed signature emails from DocuSign, Adobe Sign, PandaDoc and similar tools, and for signed contracts sent as attachments. Import every signed contract that is not yet in Contracko. Then, every day at 18:00 Europe/Amsterdam time until I tell you to stop, do the same for emails received since your last check. For each new contract, check that Contracko linked it to the right counterparty and fix it if not. Tell me what you imported each day.
```

### Get a weekly deadline digest

```
Each Monday at 08:30 Europe/Amsterdam time, until I say stop, give me the notice deadlines and end dates due within 60 days, one line each with the decision I face. Also flag last week's imports that still lack an end date or contract type.
```

### Share reports with your team

You can message a dot in Slack, add it to a channel and tell it to engage with others there [3]. It may check with you privately before it shares anything in a channel. Create the renewals report and its share link in Contracko first, then let the dot keep the channel up to date.

```
On the first weekday of every month at 09:00 Europe/Amsterdam time, until I tell you to stop, list the contracts renewing next quarter by counterparty, with their notice dates. Post a two-line summary in our #legal Slack channel with the link to our Contracko renewals report.
```

Post a share link only where everyone in the channel should see that view.

Run each prompt once while you watch before you leave it alone. Scheduled runs do real work in your Contracko account, so check the first results, and any import that failed, before you trust the routine.

## What your dot can and cannot do

Your dot acts as you, inside the Contracko workspace you chose at sign-in, and cannot open a contract you could not open yourself. Records it creates or updates land in Contracko's activity history, labelled as coming from MCP [4].

Some actions stay in the Contracko app whatever you grant: changing who has access, deleting folders and signing workflows [4]. ChatGPT shows the actions the connection currently offers, and the dot's plugin permissions control which of them it may take [2]. The standing instruction never to delete adds a second line of defence.

ChatGPT adds its own check. Before a dot takes an action that affects your accounts or shares information, an automatic review decides whether to go ahead, ask you first or hand the step back to you. Your own rules cannot switch off ChatGPT's built-in confirmations [2].

You can disconnect ChatGPT at any time in Contracko under Settings, then Integrations, then MCP Connections [5]. The [MCP server documentation](https://contracko.com/docs/mcp-server) covers the rest.

Contracko does not use your contracts to train AI models. ChatGPT is a separate provider: when it calls Contracko, your contract text is sent to it, and Contracko cannot control what happens there [5]. Turn off model training in ChatGPT's data controls before you connect real contracts.

## Why a connection beats pasting

A dot with no connection knows only the files someone last dropped into the chat, and it cannot tell a signed amendment from an old draft. With ChatGPT MCP access to Contracko, it reads the current records, dates and analysis each time it checks. That is why a Monday digest reflects this week's portfolio rather than last month's upload.

## Frequently asked questions

How do I connect ChatGPT dots to a contract management MCP server?

Add the Contracko plugin from ChatGPT's plugin directory and sign in to Contracko in your browser. A dot can then use that ChatGPT MCP connection with the permissions you granted, if Contracko shows up in its plugin permissions. If your workspace blocks directory plugins, a Business or Enterprise workspace can add the Contracko MCP server as a custom app instead; on Pro, that route is read-only.

Can I try free AI contract review before setting up the agent?

Yes. Upload one document to Contracko's [free AI contract review](https://contracko.com/tools/contract-review) and see what it flags. That tool stands alone; the dot works inside your own Contracko account.

How do businesses track contract renewal dates automatically?

They keep their contracts in a central contract repository that knows each renewal and notice date, and let reminders do the remembering. With a ChatGPT dot and Contracko, the dot imports the contracts, Contracko extracts the dates, the dot sets the reminders, and a weekly scheduled digest tells you what is coming. Check the extracted dates on contracts that matter most.

Which ChatGPT plan do I need for dots?

ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200 or Pro 500 for users aged 18 and older outside the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, or an eligible Business Premium workspace. Eligible Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces have them too, except those with UAE data or inference residency. OpenAI is rolling dots out gradually, so check its documentation first. Contracko includes its MCP server in every plan at no extra cost.

Is this an AI contract review tool or a contract repository?

Both, through one connection. Contracko is the contract repository and does the AI contract review and analysis. The dot is the AI contract assistant: how you ask for it and how the routine work gets done.

Is my contract data used to train AI models?

Not by Contracko. On the ChatGPT side, your contract text goes to OpenAI when the dot reads it, so turn off model training in ChatGPT's data controls before you connect real contracts.
