# AI contract management agent with Claude Duet

Budi Voogt Nov 06, 2026

Copy for LLM

Say a signed telecoms agreement with Northgate Telecom, a fictional supplier, lands in your Gmail on a Tuesday. It auto-renews on 1 March 2027, and notice is due by 30 January 2027. You can ask Claude Duet, the proactive agent from Anthropic, to watch for contracts like this, send them to Contracko and raise that notice date in your morning brief. That is the idea behind an AI contract management agent with Claude Duet. Contracko reads and analyses the contract, holds the dates and reminders and reviews the risk, while Duet does the fetching, filing and follow-up.

Anthropic launched Claude Duet in October 2026 as a research preview [1]. It is its own app on iOS and Android, separate from the main Claude app, and it also runs on claude.ai [2]. It has its own virtual machine, so it keeps working while your phone and laptop are off [1]. This guide connects Contracko, gives Duet its contract job and suggests five standing jobs. Duet is a research preview, so treat those jobs as starting points rather than tested recipes: run each one once, check the result in Contracko and upload anything that did not come through yourself.

## Why Duet should run your contracts

Most assistants wait for you to ask. Duet works the other way round: it checks your connected apps in the background, sends you a morning brief and asks for approval before consequential actions [1]. That suits contract work, where the costly mistakes come from what nobody looked at. A renewal goes through because the notice window closed in a quiet week.

At home, Duet can keep track of the lease, the mortgage, the insurance policy and the subscriptions you forgot you had. At work, it plays the part of an in-house contract manager who chases signed copies and helps keep the central contract repository complete, so notice dates are less likely to slip.

The work is split on purpose. The Claude model behind Duet does not extract terms from your contracts. Contracko does all of the AI extraction and analysis itself: parties, dates, renewal terms, notice periods, values, liability, obligations and risk [4] [6]. You can ask Duet to handle the errands around it:

- looks for signed agreements in Google Drive and Gmail
- sends each file to Contracko and follows the import until it is done
- spots contracts filed under the wrong contract type, corrects the type and requests a re-read from Contracko
- moves contracts into folders and completes counterparty details
- sets reminders, prepares reports and raises what needs a decision

Contracko connects to Duet through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for linking AI agents to apps. For the basics behind that link, read [what a contract management MCP server is](https://contracko.com/blog/what-is-a-contract-management-mcp-server).

## What a Duet contract check-in looks like

An illustrative morning brief item from Duet, with fictional companies and data. It follows a standing job to watch a Drive folder. The files include a data processing agreement (DPA) and a statement of work (SOW).

```
Import anything new in the "Signed agreements" Drive folder into Contracko and tell me what needs a decision.
```

| File | Contract type | Folder | Needs you |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Marlow Analytics DPA.pdf | Data processing agreement | Suppliers / Marlow | No |
| Fenwick Studio SOW 2.pdf | Statement of work | Clients / Fenwick | No, type changed from "Other" |
| Quayside office lease.pdf | Office lease | Facilities | Break option, notice due 14 February |
| Northgate Telecom.docx | Telecoms services | Suppliers | Liability uncapped, auto-renews 1 March |

Duet adds that Fenwick's statement of work first landed as "Other", so it changed the type and asked Contracko to analyse it again; the re-read values wait for your approval. It also points out that Northgate auto-renews on 1 March and that the notice deadline is 30 January.

## Set up Claude Duet for contracts

Duet comes with Claude Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US, through a waitlist, according to Anthropic's help center [3]. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. Duet uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude [3].

### Add Contracko with one click

Duet uses your Claude account, including its connectors, so you connect Contracko once in Claude and Duet can use it [2]. Contracko is listed in Claude's connector directory [5]. Under the hood it is a Claude MCP connection: the connector links Claude to the Contracko MCP server. Open the [Contracko connector for Claude](https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/contracko), choose Connect to Claude and sign in to Contracko in your browser [5].

When Contracko asks what to allow, grant read and write access to your contracts from the start. Read access alone lets Duet answer questions, but importing, filing and setting reminders all need write access [5]. A proactive agent that cannot act just sends you more to-do items.

Contracko has two products, each with its own access:

- Contract management is your contract repository: contracts, dates, reminders, folders, analysis and reports. This is what Duet uses, and it never spends Parser credits.
- Contracko Parser is a separate tool for processing documents in bulk without adding them to your repository. Your contract agent does not need it, so leave it off unless you use Parser on its own.

No account yet? You can start a trial from the Contracko sign-in screen, or start from [pricing](https://contracko.com/pricing).

### Connect the apps Duet will search

Duet can only work with apps you connect yourself [3]. Connect Google Drive and Gmail in Claude as well, and Slack if you want it to post report links. Duet cannot see files on your computer, so contracts saved only on a laptop need to go into a Drive folder first.

### Tell Duet what the job is

Duet shares memory with your Claude account, so one clear message sets the job for every check-in after it:

```
From now on you run my contracts in Contracko. Keep the contract repository complete, filed and up to date, and tell me in the morning brief what needs a decision.
```

Keep it about the job. You do not need a list of approval rules. Duet already stops for approval before it sends a message, signs a document or deletes anything [1]. On Contracko's side, write actions still go through Claude's approval step, and Duet can only do what your own workspace permissions allow [4]. Contracko also limits what any connected agent can do, as explained below.

Expect a few questions anyway. Contracko's skill tells Duet to confirm a bulk change and what it costs against your plan's allowance, to check where contracts will move before filing them, and to explain who reminder emails will reach [5]. Those questions are the safety net that write access leaves in place.

### Add the Contracko skill

Contracko's skill is a written playbook that shows Claude how to work with Contracko: which steps to take for an import, a filing pass or a renewal check. Skills live in your Claude account, so once you add it to Claude, Duet has it too. On Pro and above, the Contracko plugin under Customize, then Plugins, includes it [5]. The same skill is published in Contracko's open skills library at github.com/contracko/contracko-skills, as one skill called contracko. It covers importing, filing and reviewing renewals and risk [4].

## Build a contract repository with tracking

A contract repository with tracking is the part of this setup you will lean on most. Each agreement lives in one workspace, and its dates and reminders sit in Contracko rather than in a chat thread. If the idea is new to you, start with [what a contract repository is](https://contracko.com/blog/contract-repository-guide).

### Bring every contract in

Start with a sweep of the places your contracts already sit:

```
Which signed contracts from the last three years are sitting in my Google Drive or my Gmail attachments? Bring them into Contracko and, once the imports are done, tell me which files did not make it.
```

The aim is that Duet hands each file to Contracko and checks the import until it finishes. Whether a given Drive or Gmail file transfers depends on what Duet's connectors can pass on, so read the list it returns and upload anything missing in Contracko yourself. On Contracko's side, each imported document becomes a contract record linked to a counterparty, new or existing. Large batches can also be held back by your Contracko plan's limits [5]. The full workflow is in [how to import and organise contracts with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/extract-contract-data-with-mcp).

### Contracko knows what to extract

Good tracking starts with the right fields. From each contract, Contracko pulls the parties, the start and end dates, renewal terms and notice periods, contract values and clauses such as the liability cap [4] [6]. You can also give a contract type its own fields, such as licence counts for software, so every contract of that type tracks them in the same place.

Renewal is where a plain end date misleads. Contracko stores auto-renewal and the renewal period as their own fields, and treats the termination notice as a period before the end date. [Contract dates and auto-renewals](https://contracko.com/docs/contract-dates) explains each field.

### Check types and folders

Most people skip this part, so ask Duet to do it:

```
Go through the contracts imported today. Where the contract type looks wrong, set the right one and have Contracko re-read the document. Then move each contract into its client or supplier folder.
```

In Contracko's connection, the re-read is its own step, separate from changing the type, which is why the prompt asks for both. Contracko then reads the document again for its new type and proposes updated values. Nothing is overwritten until you approve them [5] [6]. Each re-read counts as one AI extraction, so Duet should confirm a large batch with you first.

### Reminders and your calendar

With the dates in place, one message covers the whole repository:

```
Set a reminder 21 days before the notice deadline of every contract that auto-renews, and send it to me and our finance lead.
```

Contracko sends those reminders itself, so they do not depend on when Duet next checks in. More prompts for this job are in [contract renewal reminders with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/contract-renewal-reminders-with-mcp).

For your calendar, Contracko publishes a [calendar feed](https://contracko.com/features/calendar-integration) with start, end and notice dates and their reminders. It works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. In Contracko, open Calendar, copy the feed address and subscribe to it in your calendar app. [Calendar setup](https://contracko.com/docs/calendar-integration) walks through it.

## AI contract analysis for any agreement

AI contract analysis means asking one contract a direct question and getting a short answer with the wording behind it. Contracko has already analysed the agreement, so Duet reads that analysis and quotes the clause for each point. It works well from your phone between meetings:

```
What does the Quayside office lease let us do before the end of the term, and by when do we have to tell the landlord?
```

```
Give me the Northgate Telecom agreement on one screen: how long it runs, how we get out, whether prices can change and anything odd.
```

An illustrative answer to the second prompt, with fictional data:

| Point | What Contracko found | Clause |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Term | 24 months from 1 March, renews for 12 months | "This Agreement renews automatically for further periods of 12 months." |
| Notice | 30 days before renewal, in writing | "Either party may give notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the renewal date." |
| Unusual | Supplier can change tariffs mid-term | "Northgate may amend the Tariff on 30 days' notice." |

Read the quoted clause before you rely on a summary. The chat version of this job is in [AI contract review with MCP](https://contracko.com/blog/ai-contract-review-with-mcp).

## AI contract review for risk and obligations

Portfolio review turns the question around. Instead of asking one contract everything, you ask every contract one thing, such as where the liability is open-ended or which deadlines fall this quarter.

```
Across our supplier contracts, where is our liability uncapped, who indemnifies whom, and which suppliers can raise prices mid-term? Order the list by notice deadline.
```

```
What do we owe our clients in the next 60 days: deliverables, reports, payments and notices?
```

An illustrative findings table for the second prompt, with fictional data:

| Obligation | Owed to | Due |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Monthly usage report | Fenwick Studio | 5th of each month |
| Proof of insurance renewal | Quayside landlord | 28 February |
| 30 days' notice of any staff change on the project | Fenwick Studio | Before the change |

The answer also caught the proof of insurance owed to the Quayside landlord, because it falls in the same 60 days. Each row comes from Contracko's risk and obligations analysis of that contract [4], and in its full answer Duet quotes the clause behind each one. Check the clause before you act on a row. For the wider discipline, see [contract risk management](https://contracko.com/glossary/contract-risk-management).

## Reports your team actually reads

Contracko reports are built on the live data in your account, so a renewal date you change today shows up in tomorrow's view [6]. Duet can build them for you: renewals by quarter, annual value per counterparty, or contracts per owner.

```
Make me a Contracko report of annual value per counterparty for the contracts that renew next quarter. Share it in Contracko with our finance lead, and tell me how to open it.
```

A report Duet creates starts out private to you. Sharing it with your workspace or named colleagues needs your approval, and they open it in Contracko with their own access. If Duet cannot hand you a direct link, it can give you the report's name to open in Contracko. A share link made in the Contracko app works differently: anyone with that link can see the view, even without access to the contracts [6], so use one only when you mean to.

## Five workflows to run on a routine

Anthropic describes two rhythms for Duet: a morning brief, and background checks of your connected accounts every few hours [1]. You can tell it what you want to hear about and how often. A standing job is an instruction Duet keeps and acts on in those checks, so a job may run some hours after the moment you name. Duet can also miss something that arrives between checks, or misread a thread [2]. Background checks count toward your Claude usage limits [3], so keep each job specific.

The five prompts below are proposed jobs, not tested recipes. Paste one into Duet, ask it to run the job now and check the result in Contracko before you rely on it. If a later run is late or misses a file, ask Duet to run it again or do that step in Contracko. Change the folder names and channels to yours.

### Onboard everything once

This one runs once. It suits a household's paperwork as well as a company's whole archive.

```
Let's set up Contracko properly. Step 1: make me a list of every signed contract you can find in Google Drive and in Gmail, and show it to me before importing anything. Step 2: once I say go, import the list into Contracko in batches and tell me when each batch is done. Step 3: propose a folder structure (clients, suppliers, home) and file the contracts into it. Step 4: show me which contracts look like the wrong type, and ask before you change them and request re-reads.
```

### Watch a folder for new contracts

```
Keep an eye on my "Signed agreements" folder in Google Drive. When a new file shows up there, bring it into Contracko and confirm it landed with a sensible contract type and folder. Only mention this in my morning brief on days something new arrived.
```

### Catch signed contracts in your inbox

E-signature tools such as DocuSign, Adobe Sign and PandaDoc email a "completed" notice when everyone has signed. That notice is the trigger for this job: an audit of older mail first, then new mail as it arrives.

```
Signed contracts keep getting lost in my inbox. Once, go back through my Gmail and find every "completed" signature notice and every email with a signed contract attached; check them against Contracko and import the ones it is missing. From then on, watch for new ones as part of your checks. When you add a contract, record who on the other side we deal with, and how to reach them, on that counterparty in Contracko.
```

### Get a weekly deadline digest

```
On Mondays, open my morning brief with a contracts section. Show each notice deadline and end date in the next 60 days, with the date and the decision I need to make. Then list any contract imported in the past week that is missing an end date or a contract type.
```

### Share reports with your team

Duet stops for approval before it sends a message [1], so each Slack post comes to you first. Approve it from your phone and Duet posts it. Anthropic notes that Slack works with some limits in Duet [3]. Colleagues need access to the report in Contracko to open the link.

```
Build a Contracko report of next quarter's renewals by contract type, showing annual value, and share it with our legal team in Contracko. On the first weekday of each month, prepare a post for our #legal Slack channel that says where to open the report, with a link if you have one, and a two-line summary of what changed since last month. Ask me to approve it.
```

## What Duet can and cannot do

Duet acts as you, inside the Contracko workspace you picked at sign-in, and cannot open any contract your own account cannot open [4]. Whatever it creates or changes is marked as coming from MCP in Contracko's activity history, so you can trace its work.

It cannot delete your contracts. The Contracko MCP server has no tool to delete a contract, a document, a folder, a counterparty or a contract type. Deleting those happens only in the Contracko app. On your contracts, the only things a connected agent can remove are custom dates and reminders.

To disconnect, go to Settings, then Integrations, then MCP Connections in Contracko [5]. The [MCP server documentation](https://contracko.com/docs/mcp-server) covers the rest.

One caveat is specific to Duet. Connectors belong to your Claude account, not to Duet alone, so once Contracko is connected, regular Claude chats can use it too. That is usually what you want, but it is worth knowing.

Contracko does not train models on your contracts [4]. When Duet reads a contract through the connector, the text goes to Anthropic, and Contracko cannot control what happens to it there [5]. Turn off model training in your Claude privacy settings before you connect real contracts.

## Why a connection beats pasting

Paste a contract into a chat and the agent knows that one file, as it was that day. It cannot tell whether a signed amendment replaced it last month. Through the Claude Duet MCP connection, Duet can read Contracko's current records, dates and analysis whenever it works. So a Monday brief can describe the portfolio as it stands, not as it stood at your last upload.

## Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Claude Duet to a contract management MCP server?

Open the Contracko connector in Claude's connector directory, choose Connect to Claude and sign in to Contracko in your browser. Duet uses the same Claude MCP connectors as the rest of your Claude account, so there is no code or server address to configure.

How do businesses track contract renewal dates automatically?

The dependable part is a contract repository that stores each renewal and notice date and sends reminders on its own. Claude Duet can add the legwork by bringing new contracts in, while Contracko extracts the dates and sends the reminders. You can ask for a Monday brief that lists what is coming up, and the reminders still arrive if a brief is late.

Can AI read contracts for me?

Yes, within limits. Contracko is the AI contract analysis tool here: it reads each document, extracts the terms and flags risk. Duet then answers from that analysis and quotes the clause, so you can check the wording. It is not legal advice.

Can I try free AI contract review before setting up the agent?

Yes. Contracko's [free AI contract review](https://contracko.com/tools/contract-review) tool analyses a single file. It is separate from the agent, which works inside your Contracko account, and Duet itself needs a paid Claude plan [3].

Which Claude plan do I need for Duet?

Pro, Max or Ultra in the US, through a waitlist, according to Anthropic [3]. Plans and regions change, so check Anthropic's help center first. For Contracko's side, see [pricing](https://contracko.com/pricing).

Does Duet use Parser credits?

No. Everything in this guide runs on contract management, including imports and re-reads, and contract management does not draw on Parser credits. Parser is only for standalone bulk processing.

Is my contract data used to train AI models?

Not by Contracko. Contract text that Duet reads is sent to Anthropic, so turn off model training in your Claude privacy settings before you connect real contracts.
