### A PPA is a long contract with a few decisive dates buried in it

Power purchase agreements run for years, sometimes a decade or more, which makes it easy to treat them as set-and-forget. They are not. Buried in that long term are a handful of dates that decide the economics: the extension or renewal election window, where you choose whether to lock in continued supply; the price re-opener, where the contracted rate can be reset against a benchmark or index; and the term-end date itself, after which supply may simply stop unless a renewal was negotiated in advance.
