## Häufig gestellte Fragen

- **Q:** Is a written employment contract required?
**A:** While not always legally required for at-will employment in some jurisdictions, a written contract is highly recommended to clearly define the employment relationship and protect both parties.

- **Q:** What is "at-will" employment?
**A:** At-will employment means that either the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason (as long as it's not illegal), or for no reason at all.

- **Q:** Can I change the terms later?
**A:** Generally, yes, but significant changes usually require a new agreement or an amendment signed by both parties. To stay on top of probation end dates, notice periods, and contract end dates, our free employment contract reminder tool tracks them for you.

- **Q:** Does this include a non-compete clause?
**A:** This template includes a standard non-compete clause, but be aware that non-competes are becoming increasingly restricted or banned in many jurisdictions (like California and by the FTC). Consult a local attorney.

- **Q:** How should employee benefits and equity compensation be documented in the contract?
**A:** Benefits such as health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid leave should be described by reference to the company's benefit plan documents rather than spelled out in full detail, so the contract does not need to be amended every time a plan changes. Equity compensation — stock options or restricted stock units — should reference a separate equity plan and grant agreement that governs vesting schedules, exercise windows, and treatment on termination.
