Reminder guidance for this contract type

Option years are the deadline that decides the contract value

In government contracting, much of a contract's value sits in its option years, additional periods the agency can choose to exercise. There is usually a window for that decision, and being unprepared inside it can cost the work. If staffing, pricing, or performance evidence is not in order when the option comes up, an exercise can slip or lapse, and a multi-year award shrinks to its base period. The option window is rarely top of mind day to day, which is why it needs a long-lead reminder that prompts the program team to get ready well before the agency has to decide.

Reporting deadlines feed your past-performance record

Government contracts carry recurring obligations (CDRLs, compliance certifications, performance reports), each with a fixed due date and a contracting officer watching. Late or missed submissions do more than annoy: they feed into past-performance evaluations that shape your ability to win the next award. Unlike a commercial contract where a late report is a private matter, here the record follows you. Treating each reporting cycle as an owned, scheduled reminder protects both the current contract and the past-performance rating that future bids depend on.
