Contract version control
Contracts evolve over time—they get renegotiated, amended, and renewed. Contracko's version control helps you track every iteration while keeping your contract details based on the current version.
Primary documents vs related documents
Each contract in Contracko has two types of files:
- Primary document - The main contract file. All contract details and AI extraction are based on this document.
- Related documents - Supporting files like appendices, exhibits, statements of work, and addenda.
Version types
When you add a contract file, you choose its version type:
- Current - The active, in-effect version of the contract
- Previous version - An older iteration that's been superseded (useful for tracking how terms have changed over time)
- Draft - A working version that hasn't been finalized yet
Adding a contract with version control
- Click Add Contract and upload your file
- In the dialog, select the version type:
- Choose Current for active contracts
- Choose Previous version for superseded contracts
- Choose Draft for work-in-progress documents
- Add a description and complete the contract details

Adding related documents
After creating a contract, you can attach related files:
- Open the contract and go to the Files tab
- Click Add Related Document
- Select your file (exhibit, addendum, statement of work, etc.)
- Choose the version type and add a description
Previous versions and drafts are collapsed by default to keep your view uncluttered.
Viewing contract files
The Files tab organizes all documents by type:
- Primary document at the top
- Related documents grouped below
- Previous versions and drafts tucked away but accessible

Tips
Keep a paper trail - Store previous versions when you renegotiate contracts. This creates an audit trail of how terms have evolved.
Use drafts for negotiations - Track draft iterations during contract negotiations so you can reference what changed before signing.
