MCP server

The full contract lifecycle, run from Claude over MCP

Contracko's MCP server connects your contract workspace to the AI assistant you already use. Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot about your contracts and they read the real records: parties, dates, values and the documents themselves. Give them write access and they can import contracts, set reminders and file new agreements for you.

You stay in control. Read and write are separate permissions, you choose which to grant, and you can disconnect at any time.

Connect in two steps

  1. Add the skills so the assistant knows how to help with contracts. The skills are four short playbooks published at contracko/contracko-skills.
  2. Add the connection so it can reach your workspace. Paste this address when asked:
https://app.contracko.com/mcp

A browser window opens. Sign in to Contracko, or start a free trial on that screen if you do not have an account yet.

Adding the skills does not connect your workspace on its own. If Contracko already appears in your assistant's connector list, skip step 2 rather than adding it twice. Using Claude or Claude Code? Follow the Claude steps under Connect your assistant instead: Contracko is listed in Claude's connector directory.

When you sign in, tick Read so the assistant can answer questions. Tick Write only if it should add or change contracts. Leave Write off unless you want that.

Choose read or write access

PermissionWhat it allowsWhen to grant it
ReadFind contracts, read extracted dates, values and parties, search inside documents, see AI analysis and commentsAlways. This is enough to ask questions about your workspace.
WriteImport contracts, update fields, add documents and comments, create contract types and counterparties, create, rename and move folders, file contracts in folders you can see, and set and change remindersOnly when you want the assistant to make changes. Start without it.

With Read access, the assistant can also show who can access a contract or folder. You can also limit contract searches to a folder you can see. Changes to access and folder deletion are available only in the Contracko app. Ask the assistant to confirm proposed changes before making them. It acts as you, so it can only reach contracts and folders you can reach within your workspace permissions. See contract permissions for how access is decided.

This is different from Clara AI, which works inside Contracko. Use Clara in the app, and connect over MCP when you want to work from Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant you already have open.

Find the contracts you need

Ask for a supplier, contract type, status, end-date range, or notice-date range. Your assistant can narrow the contract list before reading the results. For example: “Which Acme contracts end or need notice next quarter?” If several suppliers have the same name, confirm which one you mean.

Your assistant should check every page of matching contracts before calling a report complete. Date searches leave out contracts with no matching date, so ask separately about missing dates. An end date alone does not mean a contract renews automatically. Questions about amounts, currencies, missing fields, or clauses can require further checks.

Use your existing connection

You do not need a new connection, a replacement API key, or extra permissions to use improved search on tools you already have. If your assistant still shows old options, refresh its tools or reconnect the existing connector.

Available actions depend on your connection and workspace permissions. Keep Read access for questions. Grant Write only when you want the assistant to make changes. If an action is missing, check the selected workspace and connection settings, or contact support.

Check uncertain changes before trying again

If your assistant cannot confirm whether a change succeeded, check the contract in Contracko before repeating it. An error does not always mean that nothing changed.

Agents and developers can find tool arguments and response-handling guidance in the agent setup instructions.

Connect your assistant

Pick the product you use. Every route ends the same way: sign in through the browser window that opens.

Claude

For Claude on the web, desktop, mobile and Cowork.

  1. Open Contracko in Claude's connector directory.
  2. Choose Connect to Claude.
  3. Sign in to Contracko in the browser that opens.

This works on every Claude plan, including Free. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner enables it first. A connector you add on the web or desktop also works in the Claude mobile app.

On Pro and above you can also install the Contracko plugin (Customize → Plugins) for the four contract skills, then connect from its Connectors tab.

Added Contracko as a custom connector before? Remove that one, or you will see every tool twice.

ChatGPT

  1. Go to Settings → Plugins → Import marketplace and enter contracko/contracko-skills.
  2. Turn on Developer mode.
  3. Go to Settings → Apps → Create and paste https://app.contracko.com/mcp.
  4. Sign in in the browser that opens.

Grok

  1. Open grok.com/connectors.
  2. Add https://app.contracko.com/mcp.
  3. Sign in in the browser that opens.

Claude Code

Signed in with your Claude account? A connector added in Claude is already available here, so there is nothing to add.

For the skills, install the plugin. It also registers the connection:

/plugin marketplace add https://github.com/contracko/contracko-skills.git
/plugin install contracko@contracko

Use the full GitHub address, not a short owner/repo name. Then type /mcp in the session and sign in.

Using an API key without the plugin? Run this only if claude mcp list shows no Contracko entry:

claude mcp add --transport http contracko https://app.contracko.com/mcp

Then type /mcp and sign in.

Codex

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills
codex mcp add contracko --url https://app.contracko.com/mcp
codex mcp login contracko

Cursor

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills

Then add this to .cursor/mcp.json in your project, creating the file if it is not there:

{ "mcpServers": { "contracko": { "url": "https://app.contracko.com/mcp" } } }

Restart Cursor if it does not pick up the connection.

GitHub Copilot in VS Code

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills

Then add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

{ "servers": { "contracko": { "type": "http", "url": "https://app.contracko.com/mcp" } } }

Gemini CLI

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills

Then add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

{ "mcpServers": { "contracko": { "httpUrl": "https://app.contracko.com/mcp" } } }

OpenClaw

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills
openclaw mcp set contracko '{"url":"https://app.contracko.com/mcp","transport":"streamable-http"}'
openclaw mcp configure contracko --auth oauth
openclaw mcp login contracko

Hermes

npx skills@latest add contracko/contracko-skills

Then add this to ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

mcp_servers:
  contracko:
    url: "https://app.contracko.com/mcp"
    auth: oauth

Run hermes mcp login contracko and sign in.

Any other assistant

Paste this into the assistant and let it follow the instructions:

Fetch and execute https://contracko.com/mcp/install/prompt.md

If you prefer to add the connection yourself, the address is still https://app.contracko.com/mcp.

Try asking

Once connected, talk to the assistant the way you would a colleague.

Try askingWhat it does
We are onboarding. Pull every PDF from this folder into Contracko.Finds the files, checks the set with you, imports them, and lets Contracko extract dates, parties and types.
I do not want silent renewals. What needs notice, ends, or auto-renews in the next quarter? Set reminders for all of it.Lists the dates that matter, then creates reminders so you are notified in time.
Compare Acme's MSA to Beta's. Who has the better liability cap, termination, and data-processing terms?Puts both records side by side, with quoted clauses.
Audit our vendor contracts for uncapped liability, one-sided indemnities, and missing notice periods.Walks the portfolio and quotes the sentence behind each finding.
Our filing is a mess. Help me agree a folder structure for MSAs, NDAs, SOWs and DPAs, then create it and file our contracts in it.Confirms the structure with you, then creates the folders and files contracts you can access. It also sets up the types, fields and counterparties you use.
What should we look at this month? What is urgent, and what are we missing?Ranks the workspace by urgency and gaps.
Walk me through a new NDA, send it for signature, and file the signed PDF when it comes back.Runs the questionnaire, then files the executed copy.

You do not need to name a skill. Asking in plain language is enough.

What the skills do

SkillUse it for
contrackoConnecting, then organising contract types, custom fields, counterparties and folders
contracko-importBringing PDFs and Word files in from disk, Drive, SharePoint, Box or a link
contracko-reviewNotice dates, reminders, comparisons, risk language, and what to look at next
contracko-createA new agreement, from questions through filing the signed PDF

Connect with a token instead

Use the browser sign-in (OAuth) for most connections. If your client or automation cannot use it, create a dedicated MCP API key in Contracko Settings → Integrations → API keys. Configure your client to send it as an Authorization: Bearer header to https://app.contracko.com/mcp. Keep the key in the client’s secret settings, not in chat or shared files. Both connection methods follow the access you grant and your workspace permissions.

Manage connections in Contracko

After you approve access, the assistant appears under MCP Connections on Settings → Integrations. You can see who connected it, which access it has, and when it was last used.

You can disconnect any listed connection. Only the person who connected it can approve extra OAuth access. Only owners and admins can create, change, or revoke API keys.

View a connection

  1. Open Settings, then Integrations.
  2. Find the assistant under MCP Connections.
  3. Open the row menu and choose Manage connection.

The dialog shows Connected by, Last used, and Current access.

Disconnect an assistant

  1. Choose Disconnect from the row menu, or open Manage connection and use the disconnect control.
  2. Confirm Disconnect.

That assistant loses access to this workspace. Other connections stay as they are. Remove the connector in the assistant as well, or it will ask you to sign in again.

Change access or rotate the grant

There is no in-app control to change OAuth permissions. To change Read or Write, reconnect from the assistant and approve the permissions again.

  1. In Contracko, open Manage connection and choose Connection setup if you need the MCP address or client steps.
  2. In the assistant, reconnect Contracko and sign in.
  3. On the approval screen, tick Read. Tick Write only if the assistant should change contracts.
  4. Disconnect the unused connection in Contracko so the same assistant is not listed twice.

Reconnecting is also how you rotate the OAuth grant. There is no separate rotate-token button.

Rotate or revoke an API key

Token connections are managed in API keys on the same page, not in MCP Connections.

  1. Create a new MCP server key if you still need a token. Copy the secret once.
  2. Put the new secret in the client's Authorization: Bearer header.
  3. Open the old key and choose Revoke key.

Manage key can add access without changing the secret. Keys expire after 12 months.

Fix common problems

"Your Contracko connection needs to be renewed." The connection has expired. Reconnect from your assistant's connector settings and sign in again.

The assistant says it cannot find a tool. Check the selected workspace and connection permissions, then refresh the assistant’s tools. Grant Write only when you want it to make changes. Contact support if the action is still missing.

The assistant cannot see a contract you can see. Check that you signed in to the right workspace, and that the contract is shared with you in Contracko.

Contracko appears twice. You have two connections to the same server. In Claude, remove the custom connector you added earlier and keep the one from the connector directory. In Claude Code, if you installed the plugin and also ran claude mcp add, run claude mcp remove contracko. In other assistants, remove the duplicate connector. Adding the skills and adding the connection are separate steps, and adding the connection twice creates two entries.

Before you share real contracts

Contracko does not train models on your contracts, and our analysis runs under commercial API terms with Zero Data Retention where available.

Connecting an assistant is different. When Claude, ChatGPT or another product calls Contracko, your contract text is sent to that product, and Contracko cannot control what happens to it there. Turn off model training in that product before you use it with real contracts. See Security for how we handle your data on our side.
