Managing contract types

Contract types help you organize contracts in your contract repository and make them easier to find. Use contract types to group contracts like software subscriptions, vendor agreements, employee contracts, or any other classification that fits your business.

Creating contract types in the contract editor

When creating or editing a contract, you can assign a contract type directly:

  1. Open any contract in the editor
  2. Find the Contract type dropdown
  3. Select an existing contract type or create a new one by clicking Manage
  4. Click Save to persist the contract type

Delete contract type button

Deleting a contract type does not remove associated contracts. It simply sets the contract type field to null for those contracts.

Filtering contract types

On the contract types page, you can filter your contract types:

By name:

  • Enter text in the search field to filter by contract type name

By date range:

  • Use the date filters to show contract types created or updated within a specific timeframe

This helps you locate contract types when you have many in your contract management system.

Tips

Use consistent naming - Decide on a naming convention (e.g. "Software - [Name]" or just "[Name]") and apply it consistently across all contract types.

Decide which contract types are most important to you - For example, organizing contracts by contract type, like "Non-disclosure agreement" or "Software license".
